SACATON — Sarah Helen Harvier, 88, died peacefully in her home on July 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Harvier was born in Paris, Texas, on March 4, 1936, to Allie Miller and Isom Burns. She moved to Parker as a young girl, where she remained, caring for her parents. There she met F. Gilman Harvier Sr., and they later married and moved to her new home, Sacaton. She held a few jobs throughout her life, but her proudest was her dedication to her children. She was widowed at the young age of 43 but remained devoted to her family until her death after raising seven children on her own.

She was a member of First Pima Baptist Church and took pride in serving. If she was not at home, she was at the church cleaning, chopping weeds or visiting with her pastor. She was described as a simple woman, never putting herself first and always going last. She taught her children the importance of faith and loving one another, always saying "I love you" and embracing and showing affection. There was nothing greater than her love for her family.

She is survived by five sons and daughters, Martin L. Harvier, Sharon A. Harvier, Gena M. Jones, Alan F. Harvier and Linda K. Shelde, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all those on the Gila River Indian Community who affectionately knew her as "Grandma Sarah." Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by sons Raul “Ruly” Robledo and F. Gilman “Junior” Harvier Jr., grandson Martin Harvier Jr., granddaughter Andrea Robledo Nelson, great-grandson Erik Robledo and siblings Jerry Burns, Harold Burns, Billy Burns and Joann Jimenez.

Wake beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the District 3 Service Center in Sacaton. Funeral at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, at First Pima Baptist Church in Sacaton. Burial in Sacaton East Cemetery.
