Robert "Bob" Duane Sanderson

Robert "Bob" Sanderson, 73, born to Samuel Oliver Sanderson and Lillian Virginia Enos, peacefully rode on at The Caring House on June 21, 2022. Many knew him for his passion and love for the rodeo. Bob spent over 50 years as a cowboy and won many belt buckles and awards through the state and regional rodeo circuit. Anyone who knew Bob understood that he took pride in being such an accomplished cowboy. Bob also worked for Gila River Indian Community (GRIC) since 1984 and was passionate about higher education. Bob worked for several years to advance Native education for GRIC Student Services Department before retiring. An avid sports fan, you would often see him cheering on his beloved Phoenix Suns. His friends and family will miss his great sense of humor and remember him for his many stories and jokes.
Survivors include his children, M. Scott Sanderson of Mesa; Stacey Hentosz of Akron, Ohio; Casey Sanderson of Mesa; Nicklaus Sanderson of Mesa; and Cody Lomayesva of Sacaton; Matthew Burrell of Casa Grande; Jessica Sanderson of San Tan Valley; his sister Karen Williams of Mesa; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both his parents and one sibling.
