Luterio A. Lopez

June 30, 1969 — July 24, 2023

SANTA ROSA VILLAGE — Luterio Anselmo Lopez, 54, died on July 24, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Lopez was born on June 30, 1969, 41 minutes before his twin brother Lucius and the sixth child of Deacon Philip and Dorothy Lopez of Santa Rosa. He attended Santa Rosa Boarding and Day School and then graduated from Sherman Indian High School in Riverside, California. He attended Central Arizona College. He was involved in various community groups, including the Gu Achi District Livestock Association while working horses and cattle.

He enjoyed singing and sang primarily with SONS (Spirit of the O’odham Nation Singers), venturing out to sing where needed. As a Cursillista he worked a few cursillos, where he met and prayed for all people. He worked in several fields but primarily with elders of the Tohono O’odham Nation and its Gu Achi District. During the latter part of his life, he found a place of comfort with his partner Priscilla Ortiz and all the neighbors and friends who gave him immense joy, support and love. The light in his face as he told stories of them helped his family to know he felt comfortable and pleased with his neighbors. He was known for sharing his adventures, his humorous outlook on life and his zest for experiencing and influencing whomever entered his space.

His parents and brothers Waylon and Christopher preceded him to death. He is survived by his siblings Camillus, Cynthia Manuel, Kathleen Domingo, Isidro and his twin Lucius as well as nephews, nieces, grandchildren and godchildren.

Funeral Mass celebrated at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at House No. 24, North Santa Rosa, and sharing, choirs and groups after Mass. Last viewing and Mañanitas at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2. Burial at 6 a.m. in Santa Rosa South Cemetery.

For further information call Isidro at 520-840-8882, Camillus at 520-993-9691 or Lucius at 520-993-6050.
