Benedict Romo

AK-CHIN — Benedict “Benny” Romo, 78, of Ak-Chin died on March 13, 2023.

Mr. Romo was born on Feb. 5, 1945, in Gila Bend to Marco and Annie Romo. He honorably served in the Army during the Vietnam War and worked for the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs as an officer for Ak-Indian Indian Community and Gila River Indian Community. He also worked for Ak-Chin Tribal Gaming as an agent and served as a gaming commissioner.

He is survived by seven adult children, Jessica Dean, Dominic Sr., Evangelyn, Beatrice, Dena and Natalie Romo and Ann Marie Antone; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by siblings Melissa Romo, Nina Hulse and Justin Romo Sr.

Wake beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 24, at Ak-Chin Recreation Gym, 45753 W. Farrell Road. Funeral Mass celebrated at 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, at St. Francis Catholic Mission. Burial in AK-Chin Cemetery.
