Picacho – Anthony Chavez Meza, 81 of Picacho passed away on January 11, 2024.

Mr. Meza was born to Benito and Margarita Meza on January 18, 1942, in Cuchillo Chihuahua, Mexico. He was an honest, loving, kind and humble man. He was soft spoken yet firm and very hardworking. Before settling down in Picacho he was involved in the movement with the United Farm Workers of America with Cesar Chavez in California from 1969-1974 where he was also one of Ceasar Chavez’s personal protection detail. Later he moved his family to Arizona where he started working at the Federal Compress in Eloy and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union. He then started working for and retired from the City of Eloy.

When not working he enjoyed dancing, gardening, reading, fishing, and camping, antiquing, RV road trips and rock hunting with his grandchildren. He was a great father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

One of his proudest accomplishments was in 1981 when he became a United States Citizen. He was a strong believer in everyone’s right to vote and the importance of making your vote count.

He was preceded in death by his parents Benito N. Meza and Margarita C. Meza, his brother Heriberto C. Meza and his wife of 58 years Amada P. Meza. He is survived by his children Christina Armenta of Bay City, Texas, Maria Meza of San Antonio, Texas, T.J.
