Wilmore Raymond Mineer

Wilmore Raymond "Ted" Mineer, 90, died Dec. 14, 2008.


The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Casa Grande Mountain View Cemetery.

Mr. Mineer was born on his grandfather's tobacco farm near Glen Springs, Ky. He attended school in Tollesboro, Ky. At age 17, during the Great Depression, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was sent to Price, Utah. She later was sent to St. George, Utah, to help build the road to Mount Trumbull and Tuweep. While there he met and fell in love with Lorana Fish. He later joined the Army and was sent to Fort Custer, Mich., and they were married in Battle Creek, Mich., on March 8, 1942, during World War II.

He was shipped to Iceland, having received inoculations to go to North Africa. He contracted malaria in Iceland and remained there for 18 months. He later served a year in Germany under Gen. George S. Patton in the 3rd Army, 94th Division. After the war he started a taxi company, operated it for several years and also opened a restaurant. He continued working at a service station and was a Fuller Brush salesman. A very busy man, he also operated a store. In 1957 he moved to Phoenix and worked for Sky Chefs with American Airlines until retiring and moving to Casa Grande, next door to his son and grandchildren.

Survivors include his son, Roger Mineer of Pinetop-Lakeside; a brother, Walter Arthur of Whitesboro, Ky.; a sister, Pauline Arthur of Whitesboro; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
