Virgil Otha Cannon

Virgil Otha Cannon, 77, of Casa Grande, Az., died on January 20, 2023. Mr. Cannon was born on June 22, 1945, to Ethel Cannon in Leland MS.

He was raised there by his grandmother Gracie until he moved to Chicago in 1962. Where he proudly served his country in the 173rd Brigade Army Airborne from 1965 to 1967. Virgil served in Vietnam where he earned two Bronze Star Medals, Good Conduct Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award. He returned home to Chicago where he joined the Chicago police force for two years, then went to work at Peoples Energy where he rose to be General Supervisor and retired in 1999. He moved to Casa Grande, Az., where he completely remodeled a house and made a home for his beloved grandmother, Gracie, until her passing in 2005. He married his beloved wife Idella in 2010 and she passed away in 2018. Virgil loved watching all sports, but especially Pro Football, and Pro Basketball. He had some favorite teams but just enjoyed watching. He was a wonderful God-Fearing man and loved his family very much.

Left to mourn his passing are his significant other, Bettie Burrell; Sons, Virgil O. Cannon Jr., Gurnee,IL; Jumoke Amoakon, Chicago, IL; Daughters, Mishaun Cannon and Katherine Ealy-Cannon both of Chicago, IL; Grandsons, Virgil O. Cannon III, Dimitri Cannon; Granddaughter, Jasmine Cannon all of Lake Villa, IL; Mother Ethel Harper-Reed, Casa Grande, AZ; Brothers, Don Cannon, Tucson, AZ; Charles Cannon Alton, IL; Hank Cannon, Sr., Arizona City, AZ; Sister, Theresa Cannon, Chicago, IL; Extended family Steve & Nancy Sparks, Arizona City, AZ; and multiple nieces and nephews.

Virgil was preceded in death by his beloved wife Idella, Grandparents, Mitchell and Gracie Cannon, Sr, brothers, Mitchell, Jr. John, Charles Sr. Joseph, Sr. Isiah, Sr. and Leroy Cannon. Sisters, Edna Wilson, Gracie Williams and Irene Johnson.


Friday, January 27, 2023, Estrella Community Church 3005 W. Madera Rd. Eloy, Az.

Visitation, 11:00 am, Funeral Service, 12:00 pm.

Interment will follow at Eloy Memorial Park, 5839 E. Milligan Rd. Eloy, Az.
