Van Swearingen, 89, of Casa Grande died on April 3, 2012, at home.
The celebration of life will be held later.
Mr. Swearingen was born on Oct. 7, 1922, in Shelbina, Mo., and was a son of James T. Swearingen and Lelia A. Britton. He served in the Army and was a police chief. He was a devoted member of Trinity Southern Baptist Church and loved the Lord. He was a champion trap shooter and enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching western movies. He was known as a pool shark.
Survivors include his wife, Marci; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Van and Terrill P. "Terry" Swearingen; a brother, Paul Swearingen; two sisters, Marguerite Wood and Mildred Swearingen Rutter; and a grandson, Kerry Van Swearingen.
Memorial contributions may be made to building funds of Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Casa Grande or Shelbina First Baptist Church.
