GOODYEAR VILLAGE — Sheldon Krammer Jones, 50, died on March 5, 2013, at Hospice of the Valley Lund Home in Gilbert.
Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday at the Virginia Jones home in Sacaton. The funeral will be at 7 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Sacaton, with the Rev. Aaron Johns officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery in Upper Santan.
Mr. Jones was born on Aug. 5, 1962, in Sacaton and was a son of Virginia Kisto Williams Jones and Charlie Jones Jr. Like his father he was a cowboy at heart. As a teenager he and his siblings held family rodeos. He loved riding horses and bulls for fun. He especially loved the challenge of catching and breaking wild horses. He also loved listening to and singing country and gospel music. He attended grade school in Sacaton and went off to attend Stewart (Nev.) Indian High School. While in boarding school there, he was a rodeo bull rider and competed in Nevada as well as Sacaton.
He worked as a janitor for the Bureau of Indian Affairs Pima Agency and boarding school offices. He later was a police officer on the Gila River Indian Community, then a security officer at an industrial park. He was devoted to his family and his pet Chihuahua and sidekick, Yum-Yum.
Survivors include three sons, Alfonso Soto III of Sacaton, Jeremy Jones of Goodyear Village and Wacey Jones of Blackwater; two daughters, Zonelle and Kara Jones of Goodyear Village; his mother, of Sacaton; three brothers, Armantino Jones of San Manuel, Jonah and Elston Jones of Sacaton; five sisters, Zella Jones of Sacaton, Darlene Juarez of San Antonio, Texas, Lavaria Anton of Sacaton, Verletta Pirelli of Louisville, Ky., and Trina Jones of Albuquerque, N.M.; and 19 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Mae; his father; and a brother, Orlando Jones.
