Sharyn Carpenter Shain

April 24, 1946 — October 21, 2013

Sharyn Carpenter Shain, 67, of Casa Grande died on Oct. 21, 2013, in Mesa.
The celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Friday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel, with Darwin Chandler officiating. Inurnment will be at 3 p.m. at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista.
Mrs. Shain was born on April 24, 1946, in New Kensington, Pa., to Anna R. and Merell T. Brummert. She lived in Cheswick, Pa., Santa Barbara, Calif., and Tucson before retiring to Casa Grande in 2006. She worked for Raytheon Company in Santa Barbara for 31 years and managed the compensation and benefits departments for her division. She had a great love of children and received a credential in early childhood education in 1995. She volunteered with many charitable organizations including the teen mom program at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, Calif., The Storybook homeless children’s preschool in Santa Barbara and many church facilities in California and Arizona. She also was devoted to her family.
She was a life member of the National Rifle Association and was a certified safety instructor for the Refuse to be a Victim program and the Eddie Eagle safety program for children. She devoted much time and effort to supporting Second Amendment rights. In the 1970s she supported the Dos Pueblos Little League program in Goleta.
Survivors include her loving husband and best friend, Louis; a son, Tim Grottenthaler; a daughter, Tamra; a sister, Joyce Mohr of Defiance, Ohio; a brother, Gerard Brummert of Concord, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
