Russell Lee Opitz, 72, of Arizona City, AZ, passed away Monday, May 27, 2019. Preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jacquelyn R. Opitz; son, Nicholas Opitz of Forestville, CA; and daughter, Noel Munchinski of Cumming, GA; also survived by the mother of his children, ex-wife, Maggie Opitz. Cherished grandfather of Aiden, Jackson and Nathan Opitz and in the very near future, Anthony Russell Munchinski.
Russ graduated from Phoenix High School and at the tender age of 17, he joined the US Navy and became a Corpsman. In 1982, he attended Pima County Community College where he received his AA degree in nursing. He then went on to serve his country in the US Army where he attained the rank of Captain. During his military career, Russ served in Desert Storm for a year. He worked for the State of Arizona for 29 years as a Registered Nurse and retired in 2009. He was an avid golfer and with his wife, Jacquelyn, they were members of the Casa Grande 4-Wheeler Club, where they made many friends and longtime relationships. Russ was known for his infectious laugh and touched the hearts of many and will be missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 21, 2019 at the J. Warren Cole and Maud Gardens Chapel, 525 N. Peart Rd., Casa Grande. A reception will follow at Russ and Jackie’s home after the service.
