Rupert Gabriel White, 74, of Sacaton died on March 24, 2012, at Caring House in Sacaton.
Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Friday at the Francisco Miguel home in Ak-Chin, with visitation continuing until 8 p.m. A wake at the District 6 Service Center in Laveen will begin at 9. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 7 a.m. Saturday at St. John Catholic Mission. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
Mr. White was born on Oct. 15, 1937, in Sacaton and was a son of San Te White and Frances Wiston. He was a farm laborer and also a police officer for the Ak-Chin Indian Community.
He liked playing baseball and was a big Diamondbacks fan. He enjoyed wood crafts and watching his grandchildren play sports and compete in rodeos. He rode broncs and bulls in his younger days and was a working cowboy. He loved to hang out with his family and friends. He was active with the tribal elders and also involved in the Elder Olympics.
Survivors include two sons, Francisco Miguel and Rufus White of Ak-Chin; a daughter, Bernadette White of Ak-Chin; a brother, Theodore Peters of Santa Cruz Village; two sisters, Marjorie Sabori of St. Johns Village and Rosita Pablo of San Xavier; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda White; a son, Delbert White; four brothers, Lelander White Sr., Leo Peters, Manuel Peters Sr. and Luther Myers; and two sisters, Edwardine Stevens and Betsy Myers.
