Paul L. Modlin

November 17, 1926 — October 11, 2008

Paul Levi Modlin, 81, a well-known Casa Grande artist, died Oct. 11, 2008 at RTA Hospice House.


A celebration of life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of Casa Grande, with Pastors Ben Seller and James Cobb officiating.

Mr. Modlin was born in Belle Plaine, Iowa. He served in the Army. He studied at the Cummings School of Art in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. He exhibited his paintings in Scottsdale, Tucson and Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. He also owned and operated the Quick Draw Tavern in Casa Grande in the early 1960s.

He served as vice mayor of Casa Grande and was state vice president of the Jaycees. He was an avid golfer and loved fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, June H.; a son, Brett Modlin of Mesa; two daughters, Paula Armenta of Chandler and Paige Modlin of Gilbert; a brother, James Modlin of Casa Grande; a sister, Nancy McClain of Waterloo, Iowa; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Blake Modlin; four brothers; and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Casa Grande or Hospice Charitable Fund of Central Arizona, 1675 E. Monument Plaza Drive, Casa Grande, AZ 85222.
