He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for many years and spent most of his life in Eloy. He married Cecilia Ramirez in 1942 and together they raised eight children. He died Sept. 24, 2009 at home.

He had a gentle spirit. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed family get-togethers, especially his grandchildren’s parties.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Lou Hernandez and Cecilia Montijo of Casa Grande, Mary Ruiz and Socorro Chavez of Eloy; a son, Ernest Castro of Casa Grande; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, with a fifth expected. He was preceded in death by his wife; three sons, Frank, Eddie and Robert Castro; and a sister.
