Mary Anne "Nana" Gutierrez

MARICOPA - Mary Anne "Nana" Gutierrez, 79, of Maricopa died peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 13, 2015, at home. She was born on Nov. 6, 1935, in Barberton, Ohio, a daughter of Andrew Smith and Ann Tepus.

A homemaker, Mrs. Gutierrez lived life as a hardworking, feisty and independent spirit who loved her family, her church, her friends and the beautiful Arizona sunsets.

Survivors include six daughters, Jennifer Murphy of Arizona, Vicky Horsley of Louisiana, Tammy Jo Hansen of Nevada and Connie Woll, Penny Booth and Tina Credeur of Ohio; six sons, Jesse Horsley of North Carolina, Todd Horsley of Louisiana, Kirk, David and Ronnie Carpenter of Ohio and Robert Horsley of Missouri; two sisters, Anna Schneider of Ohio and Katie Sparks of Virginia; a brother, Andrew Smith of Ohio; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Gutierrez, and a sister, Vera Sparks.

A private ceremony will be held to quietly scatter her ashes among the mountains. Her wish was to be remembered with a smile.
