Mary Ann Anthony

October 9, 1965 — December 28, 2014

Mary Ann Anthony, 71, died at home, surrounded by her family, on Dec. 28, 2014, following a courageous, 21-year battle with cancer.

Mrs. Anthony was born in Montague, Massachusetts, on Sept. 8, 1943 to Marcus and Helen McClure. She grew up in Pennsylvania and loved spending time at the Jersey Shore. She married John Anthony in Broomall, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 9, 1965. They were married 49 years and together raised two daughters. She graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in elementary education. After teaching on the Fort Totten Indian Reservation and West Elementary School, she returned to college. She earned a master’s degree in instructional technology from Utah State University. She then became the media specialist at Douglas High School until her retirement.

She was very active throughout her life. She enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, cycling and golf. She completed a 100-mile bicycle ride at age 51 and a triathlon with her daughters at age 60. She was an avid gardener, loved reading and made beautiful quilts. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family to Europe, Mexico and Thailand. During retirement, she and John split their time between Wyoming and Arizona.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Lt. Col. Marcus McClure. Survivors include her husband; two sisters, Kathleen Carlin and Arlene Jarzyna; two daughters, Leslie Hoffmann and Joelle Anthony; and four grandchildren.

The memorial service will be held later in Wyoming.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
