Mark Lowery Terry, Iii

Mark L. Terry III, 72, a thirty year resident of Florence, passed away in his home

on Sunday, October 23, 2022, surrounded

by his family after an extended battle with

Alzheimer’s Disease. Mark was born in

Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September

6, 1950. He attended school in Deming, NM. He graduated from

Deming High School in 1968. He married his high school sweetheart, Suzanne Mary Rekart, on December 28, 1968. He attended

Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM and Western New

Mexico University in Silver City, NM. In 1971 he moved his family

to Artesia, NM. For several years he worked in a family owned auto

dealership, Mark Terry Motors. He then worked in the industrial

scale business at Southwestern Scale Company in Phoenix, Arizona,

where he fabricated, transported and installed large scales. He also

owned and operated Southwest Scale Service in New Mexico. He

then worked for B. J. Cecil Trucking in Claypool, AZ. After being

involved in a near death accident where he was badly burned, he

retired to Florence, AZ. Mark and his wife, Suzanne, spent the next

30 years building an adobe hacienda south of Florence. He crafted

one-of-a-kind hand tooled leather gun holsters and gun belts. He

collected and loved his antique cars. He spent as much time as

possible riding through the desert collecting old bottles and rusted

memorabilia. He had an extensive collection.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Mark L. Terry Jr.

and Billie Janelle Terry (Morrow). He is survived by his wife of

54 years, Suzanne Mary Terry (Rekart) of Florence; his daughter,

Laura Michelle Helmick and her husband, Jason, of Snohomish,

WA; his son, Mark L. Terry IV and his wife, Julie, of Pasadena, CA;

his grandchildren, Devon R. Kellogg of Phoenix, J. Raven Scott,

Kirsten L. Terry and Cameron M. Terry of Atlanta, GA; his brother,

Norman L. Terry and his wife, Linette, of Scottsdale, AZ; five nieces

and several great-nieces and nephews. A Memorial Celebration of

Life will be held on November 12. The family requests that any
