Margarita Torres Perez

Margarita Torres Perez, 94, of Casa Grande died on Jan. 6, 2015.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, with rosary recited at 7. Funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 10 a.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Ariel Lustan. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Mrs. Perez was born on June 10, 1920, in Del Rio, Texas, and was a daughter of Maximo and Socorro Torres. She was a seamstress and a very strong-willed and independent woman who loved her family. Everyone in the family looked up to her, and she encouraged them to be and do their best and to have pride of self and anything they did.

She loved to sew, quilt, cook and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spoil them. She was a member of Guadalupanas at St. Anthony’s Church and St. Catherine of Siena Church in Phoenix. She loved her plants, was very traditional and very competitive at board games.

Survivors include seven daughters, Terri Rangel of Phoenix, Minnie Perez, Margarita Leyvas and Anna Vance, all of Casa Grande, Gloria Garcia of Glendale, Marta Almodova of Tucson and Nina Sanchez of Sierra Vista; two sons, Andres Perez of Phoenix and Arturo "Art" Perez of Peoria; three sisters, Concepcion Alejandro of Casa Grande, Pauline Rocha of San Jose, California, and Josie Flores of Santa Clara, California; 28 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Perez Sr.; a daughter, Linda Garcia; two sons, Armando and Antonio T. Perez Jr.; two sisters, Lily Rodriguez and Maria Apodaca; and a brother, Rodolfo Torres.
