Mabel Lee Combs

Mabel Lee Combs, 73, a longtime evangelist and co-founder of Apostolic Tabernacle in Casa Grande, died Jan. 31, 2009 in Casa Grande.


Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at First Assembly of God. The service of remembrance there will be at 7 p.m. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mountain View Cemetery.

Mrs. Combs was born in Sugar Grove, Ohio, and was a daughter of Roy L. and Alta P. Bush. She evangelized with her husband for 16 years across the United States, Central America and Mexico. They started Apostolic Tabernacle on March 23, 1969. They started the new church at 432 W. Saguaro St. the next year as part of United Pentecostal Church International. She was a noted singer across the country at conventions.

She also was a homemaker and loved her family, home and church. She was involved in every aspect of the church's ministries.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Walton C. Combs; two sons, Benny and the Rev. Andy Combs of Casa Grande; a brother, Carl Bush of Carroll, Ohio; two sisters, Mary Ann Skipmore of Bradenton, Fla., and Martha Carpenter of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Pete and John Bush, and a sister, Christina Slye.
