Lizzie Strange

January 18, 1917 — August 11, 2010

ELOY — Elizabeth “Lizzie” Strange, 93, of El Mirage died on Aug. 11, 2010, at Freedom Plaza Care Center in Peoria.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Eloy. The funeral will follow at 11, with the Rev. Gregory Chambliss officiating. Burial will be in Eloy Memorial Park.
Mrs. Strange was born on Jan. 8, 1917, in Crockett, Texas, and was a daughter of Elliot and Nora Lee Masters. She came to Arizona in the back of a truck to pick cotton. She later was a homemaker and liked to cook and clean. She loved being around people, going to church and praising God. She enjoyed watching football games on Sundays.
She loved having family gatherings and talking on the phone with friends. She had a “special son” Larry and worried about Charles. Her favorite food was greens and cornbread.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Strange of Blythe, Calif., Harvey Strange of San Diego and Charles Strange of Florence; three daughters, Lizzie Banks of El Mirage, Rose Mary Williams of Avondale and Gloria Byrd of Eloy; 27 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; a son, Celvester Strange; a daughter, Essie Fields; six brothers, Bill, Jim and Richard Masters, Willy Barrett, Roosevelt Chapman and Bishop Sweat; and a sister, Lillie Bell Ray.
