Leoma Cheek Gibson, 87, of Casa Grande died on Jan. 9, 2010 at Deborah’s House group home.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kortsen Building. The funeral will follow at 10, with Bishop Steve Lannon officiating. Burial will be in Snowflake.
Mrs. Gibson was born on April 27, 1922 in Lamesa, Texas, and was a daughter of Charles E. and Bertha M. Cheek. She worked in Tucson as a cosmetologist and also in Florence, helping a friend when her family moved there in 1948. She moved to Casa Grande in 1968 and served as LDS Relief Society president when the Casa Grande ward divided.
She was a member of the Junior Women’s Club, served on the Library Board and held many positions in her church: in Relief Society, Primary and Sunday school. She joined her husband, Dale, serving in a church mission in Dallas, including northeastern Texas, southern Oklahoma and southwestern Arkansas. She was very generous and giving and devoted to her family, whom she loved unconditionally.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Richard Dale Gibson; three sons, Richard “Rick” Gibson of Casa Grande, Franklyn Gibson of Henderson, Nev., and Charles Gibson of Huntington Beach, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Cheek; a sister, Betty Cheek; and a grandson, Charles E. Gibson.
