Johnnie Mae Gilder

Johnnie Mae Gilder, 79, of Casa Grande died Jan. 30, 2008 at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center.


Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God. The funeral will follow at 11, with Pastor C.C. Edwards officiating.

Mrs. Gilder was born Feb. 8, 1928 in Austin, Texas, and was a daughter of Cornelius and Ardessa Mackey. She worked in nursing for more than 10 years before becoming a cook at Casa Grande Union High School. She retired after more than 30 years there. She was devoted to her family and cared deeply for her friends.

Survivors include her husband, Elmo Sr.; three sons, Elmo Gilder Jr. and Jim Gilder of Casa Grande and Johnny R. Gilder of Madisonville, Texas; six daughters, Gloria J. Pennington of Madisonville, MaryAnn Hall of Phoenix, Joann Freeman of Casa Grande, Edna M. Rodriguez of Mesa, Darlene Harris of Phoenix and Ardessa Gilder of Casa Grande; two sisters, Minnie Banks of Manor, Texas, and Irene Jones of Casa Grande; 34 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Gilder; two daughters; four brothers, L.V., Lawrence, Levi and Mack Mackey; and a sister, Agusta.
