Janet Denise Williams

SACATON - Janet Denise Williams, 48, of Sacaton died on Oct. 8, 2014, at Caring House.

Visitation will be from 6 to 11 p.m. Monday at St. Anne Catholic Mission in Santan, with rosary recited at 6. Funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Anne Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was born on June 10, 1966, in Phoenix. She competed in track, basketball and softball when she was younger and was an economic development planner for the Gila River and Ak-Chin Indian communities. She also was a bus driver and office manager for St. Peter Catholic Church.

She loved to do beadwork and sew for her grandkids and made traditional dresses for many. She loved to cook and had a catering business and was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan who loved to spend time with her husband and her family.

Survivors include her husband, Greg Williams; three daughters, Joyce, Christian and Sadie Apkaw, all of Sacaton; two sons, Augustine Apkaw and Garrett Williams of Sacaton; her mother, Eugenia Apkaw of Santan; three sisters, Dorothy Sunna of Sweetwater, Sharon Miguel and Darlene Burnette of Santan; three brothers, Celestine and Dennis Apkaw Jr. of Santan and Kevin Apkaw of Goodyear Village; and 13 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Apkaw Sr.; a sister, Caren Miguel; two brothers, Dale Apkaw and Joseph Cooper; and a granddaughter, Alyssia Soto.
