Jacquelyn L. “Jacquie” Jaque Sands, 74, of Casa Grande died on Aug. 12, 2010, at home after a lengthy illness.
The memorial service will be on Aug. 22 at Casa Grande Valley Elks Lodge. Call the lodge after Monday for more information.
Ms. Sands was born on Aug. 27, 1935, in Erwin, N.C. She led a varied and interesting life, spending almost 30 years as an accountant, and retired as a manager of accounting at Microsoft Corporation. She was proud of being the 38th employee of the company, the first accountant and the first hire by Steve Ballmer, now the company’s CEO. She also was a search dog handler with German Shepherd Search Dogs of Washington State, an EMT, a state disaster reservist, an Amateur Radio operator and a police reserve officer.
She joined the Civil Air Patrol, reached the rank of lieutenant colonel, earned Observer Wings and received every award except commander. She was very active in Daughters of the American Revolution for almost 20 years and served as a chapter officer in Washington and Arizona, an Arizona state officer and national vice chairman. She loved to read, cook and sew and was an avid genealogist. Since moving to Casa Grande she was active in Casa Grande Valley Elks Lodge. She was friendly and outgoing and had a zest for living. She always had a smile on her face and refused to take life too seriously.
Survivors include her beloved companion, Francis R. “Dick” Sands; two sons, Dennis and Scott Taylor; a daughter, Regina Taylor; a stepdaughter, Sandra Maldonado; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Roy Jaque; two brothers; and two sisters.
