James Thurmond “Jim” Sensibaugh, 86, of Green Valley died peacefully on Jan. 18, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospice in Tucson, surrounded by his family.
The memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Casa Grande, with the Rev. Ben Seller officiating.
Mr. Sensibaugh was born on Dec. 28, 1923 in Decatur, Texas, where he grew up the youngest of five brothers and a sister. He was a son of Robert Sensibaugh and Mittie Cartwright. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served first on a destroyer and then submarines. While training in Groton, Conn., he met and married Virginia A. “Ginny” Blair, the love of his life. After his service the young couple lived in Texas, where two daughters were born.
Business took them to Arizona in 1955, where a third daughter was born. They raised their children in the Stanfield/Casa Grande area, and he was a member of Stanfield Rotary Club, Stanfield Community Presbyterian Church and the Stanfield school board. For many years he served as a mentor and coordinator of AA groups in Stanfield and Casa Grande. He was a caring man who brought respect and joy to others.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carole Hooper of Green Valley and Bobbie Ursin of Flagstaff; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Sensibaugh; four brothers, Zack, Lute, Bill and Orville Sensibaugh; and a sister, Esteline.
