ARIZONA CITY — The Rev. J.C. Morrison, 84, of Arizona City, a longtime pastor, died on Oct. 19, 2011, at home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel in Casa Grande, with Pastor Louis Hulsey officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
The Rev. Morrison was born on Jan. 19, 1927, in Oklahoma and was a son of Leonard Morrison and Minnie P. Smith. He and his brother Calvin founded the Church of God, a Bible-based evangelical church, in Yuma in 1954. They built the church building and membership from scratch and it survives today. He and his wife moved to Eloy in 1974, where he was an Assembly of God pastor. They labored for many years building a church and day care center, structurally and spiritually, and worked daily with poor and underprivileged families.
Survivors include a son, Jerry A. Morrison of Arizona City; a daughter, Sharon Callan of Lake Forest, Calif.; two brothers, Calvin Morrison of Arizona City and Fred Morrison of California; a sister, Ruby Emert of California; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Marie; a daughter, Dianne Walton; and two brothers, Clifford and Leonard Morrison.
He last attended the Church of God in Casa Grande, and his family requests that donations be made to its building fund, at 211 E. Date Ave., Casa Grande, AZ 85122
