Harvey "Ray" Smithson, 92, of Casa Grande, an Arizona native and longtime cattleman, died on May 17, 2012, at Hospice of the Valley, Lund Family Hospice Home in Gilbert.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Casa Grande Stake Center, with President Grant Walton officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Smithson was born on Oct. 9, 1919, in Woodruff and was a son of Harvey Smithson and Missouri Brady. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in North Africa. He was proud to be a cattleman and was known for his excellent knowledge of good cattle and horses. He was a member of the Arizona Cattle Growers Association and was an honest, hardworking man whose handshake was his bond. He loved his family and was a member of the LDS church.
Survivors include a daughter, Julene S. Hollenbach of Casa Grande; a sister, Betty Lou Ferguson of Holbrook; two brothers, Bryan Smithson of Holbrook and Richard Smithson of Yuma; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorne M., and a son, John R. Smithson.
