Floyd Turner

FLORENCE - Floyd Turner, 60, of Florence, who retired as a major with the Arizona Department of Corrections, died Nov. 17, 2007.


Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Florence. The funeral will follow at 10, with Brother Keith Wilkerson officiating. Burial will be in Coolidge Valley Memorial Park.

Maj. Turner was born Feb. 27, 1947 in Hereford, Texas. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He later attended the University of Arizona. He worked for the Department of Corrections for 32 years, then returned as a consultant for two years. He later worked for NAPA Auto Parts and then in security at the Pinal County Courthouse.

He was a member of the Sheriff's Posse in Florence and served on the Florence school board for four years. He was very involved in education. He was a member of the American Legion and was devoted to his family, giving guidance and wisdom to his children and grandchildren. His hobbies were spending time with his family, going to rodeos with friends, fishing and watching old Western movies.

Survivors include two daughters, Carla S. Lara and Malissa J. Garcia of Florence; a son, Steven W. Turner of Queen Creek; two brothers, Charles Turner of Coolidge and Bill Turner of Newport Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte S., and a son, Lonnie V. Turner.
