Florencio R. Hernandez

PICACHO ? Florencio R. Hernandez, 88, of Picacho died July 17, 2009, at Tucson Medical Center.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Glad Tidings Church in Casa Grande. The funeral will follow at 10, with Pastor M.L. Shreffler officiating. Burial will be in Eloy Memorial Park.

Mr. Hernandez was born April 28, 1921, in Finlay, Texas, to Felix Hernandez and Maria J. Reyas. He was a farm laborer. He married his wife, Felicitas, on Aug. 4, 1943. He loved the outdoors and would go for long rides on his horse or his bike. He served as a deacon at La Hermosa Church in Eloy for many years and did some missionary work in Mexico. He worked hard and taught his values and appreciation for everything to his family.

Survivors include his wife; seven sons, Henry and Danny Hernandez of Brigham City, Utah, Sammy Hernandez of Casa Grande, Florencio Hernandez Jr. of Springdale, Ark., David Hernandez of Picacho and Abel and Aaron Hernandez of Casa Grande; five daughters, Angie Ruiz and Alice Cottrell of Brigham City, Elizabeth Salazar of Casa Grande, Ester Hernandez of Arizona City and Ellen Reyes of Modesto, Calif.; 34 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother; five sisters; and two grandchildren, Abel Ruiz and Aaron Hernandez.
