SACATON — Eleanor Marion Jay, 93, of Sacaton died on April 25, 2012, at Caring House.
Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Mission in Sacaton, with visitation continuing until 10. Funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 7 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Ed Meulemans. Burial will be in East Sacaton Cemetery.
Mrs. Jay was born on Aug. 22, 1918, in Sacaton and was a daughter of Juan and Mary Jose. She was a self-employed housekeeper and made quilts. She frequently cooked for the Gila River community and her church. She loved to dance to chicken scratch music and did traditional basket dancing. She also loved to garden and be outside and loved all the children in her family. She lived for the holidays because she would see everyone then.
Survivors include three daughters, Jewel A. and Maxine M. Jay and Myrtis M. Johnson, all of Sacaton; two sons, Vernon A. Jay of Laveen and Reese A. Jay of Sacaton; a sister, Ernestine Blackwater of Sacaton; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J.; a brother, Thurman Santos; a sister, Ida Manuel; and grandchildren, Kevin Jay, Sheldon Johnson, Stephen Lewis and Reynese Jay.
