MARICOPA - Dwayne James Hamilton, 82, of Maricopa died on Dec. 5, 2014, at Hospice of the Valley’s Friendship Village in Tempe.

The graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 9 in National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, in Phoenix.

Mr. Hamilton was born on Oct. 10, 1932, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was a son of George and Margaret Hamilton. He joined the Air Force at 17 and was a police officer in Des Moines and Chandler. A pilot with a love for airplanes, he later was a crop duster. He was a founder of the fire department in Maricopa and served as president of the Maricopa Rotary Club.

Survivors include a son, David Dwayne Hamilton of Thousand Oaks, California; a daughter Catherine D. Ketcham of Arizona City; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Joan, in February; a son, Joseph G. Hamilton; two brothers, Ralph and Larry Hamilton; a sister, Helen Tokheim; and two grandchildren, Alex and Rhyleigh.
