Cynthia Goff Ellis

Cynthia "Cindy" Goff Ellis, 68, of Casa Grande died on March 7, 2023. Mrs. Ellis was born in Casa Grande on May 24, 1954, to Roger Goff and Donna Russell.


She attended Casa Grande Union High School and was a state winner in food and nutrition in 4-H. She was involved in Rainbow Girls and was a Casa Grande Valley Junior Maid of Cotton. She was the first female sports editor of the school paper, the Cougar Growl. She graduated in 1972, then graduated from Northern Arizona University and became a history teacher at CGUHS in 1977.


She taught for 30 years and served as pom sponsor, mat maid adviser, National Honor Society adviser and Key Club adviser. She won the National History Teacher of Merit Award in 1994, the first time a teacher from southern Arizona had won. Her students won state honors in National History Day nine of 15 years they participated, sending those winners to national competition in Washington, D.C. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Casa Grande and served as an elder.


She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Gary; a son and daughter, Ryan Ellis and Jennifer Dannemiller; a brother, Edward Goff; and one grandchild. 


She was preceded in death by her parents.


Celebration of life at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, at First Presbyterian Church.


Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Seeds of Hope.
