Ms. Chavez was born on Oct. 1, 1936, in Mexico to Jesus and Teresa (Orozco) Ruiz. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, cooking for her family and being a mother.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Rigas, Elizabeth Chavez and Ivonne Zuniga; a sister, Eva Ortiz; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
