Bernard Carmen

SELLS — Bernard Anthony Carmen Sr., 72, died on July 6, 2013, at home.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Mission. The wake will follow at the Carmen home, beginning at 8 p.m. Burial will be early Saturday in Topawa Cemetery.

Mr. Carmen was born on May 21, 1941, in Casa Blanca and was a son of Jose and Isabel Carmen. He was a hard worker and loved his job as a heavy equipment operator in construction before retirement. He was devoted to his family and friends.

He coached Pee Wee and Little League baseball and men’s and women’s basketball in the Sells area. He also taught the children about life and that they didn’t need gangs and drugs.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; four daughters, Bernice Carmen-Salazar of Arizona City, Debra Carmen-Lopez and Viola Carmen-Antone of Sikol Himtka Village and Cathryn Carmen-Lee of Tucson; two sons, Bernard Carmen Jr. of Tucson and Michael Carmen of Sells; 23 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Carmen.
