FLORENCE — Ben Edward Arney, 90, of Florence died on Nov. 8, 2011, in Casa Grande.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Florence. The funeral will follow at 11, with Bishop Ryan Michel officiating. Burial will be in Florence Cemetery.
Mr. Arney was born on July 17, 1921, in El Cajon, Calif., and was a son of Ben R. and Mary Arney. He served in World War II as a Navy Seabee in the Asiatic-Pacific area. He received two Bronze Stars with V device. He worked for Reynolds Metals Company as a foreman.
He was a cowboy and gunsmith and at one time designed gun stocks. He enjoyed horses, hunting and target practice. He was a jack of all trades and liked to build things and work around the house and garden. One of his hobbies was making wind chimes. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was a great stepdad and well liked by many. He was a ward missionary and was called to work in the LDS Mesa Temple. He also served in the Snowflake 9th Ward Bishopric for a term and loved the Lord.
Survivors include his wife, Adeline; a son, Ben R. Arney of Snowflake; two daughters, Mary Katherine Rowe and Sharon A. Arney of Leoti, Kan.; 42 grandchildren; and 78 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Arney; a brother, Buford Y. Arney; and his second wife, Jeannie Arney.
