Alter Freeman

March 16, 1953 — January 23, 2022

Alter Ber Tekulsky Freeman, also called “Al” or “Big Al,” was “born, bred, and buttered” in Brooklyn, NY on March 16, 1953. He was the fourth child of Anna Dora Tekulsky. After her death when he was only thirteen, Al made his own way in the world surviving by his ambition and wits. His experiences made him a natural salesman, able to sell anything to anyone. Fortunate enough to have adventured all over the globe for various reasons, Al had countless stories to share with family and friends. His adventures also fueled his passions - life, food, and the loves of his life. Known for his boisterous personality, Al was always the life of the party. He was a man unafraid to voice his opinion or take the opposite side of his own beliefs just to get a debate started. Favoring the sun and heat to cold, it is fitting he settled in sunny Arizona in the final years of his life. Al passed away on January 23, 2022 at 1:05 am, at age 68. He had struggled with several health issues later in life, yet lived ten years beyond the point the doctors originally predicted. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Dora Tekulsky; a brother-in-law, Joseph Orenstein; and his lifelong friend, who was more like a brother, Steven Ellis. Al is survived by his spouse of six years, his true love, Ellen Monique Freeman (Hafele); his two sons, whom he was always so proud of, Steven Freeman and Bryan Freeman; one sister, Jacqueline Orenstein; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; fifteen nieces and nephews; and his treasured, lifelong friend and wife of Steven, Patricia Ellis. Al chose to be an organ donor upon his passing.
He is being cremated by J. Warren Funeral Home in Casa Grande, AZ. In lieu of a funeral service, Al always desired those who knew him go out and enjoy a big steak dinner in his honor. On February 25th, 2022, those who wish to participate are invited to enjoy the dinner of their choice in memory of Al.
