Dock Parris

November 8, 1917 — December 17, 2017

Dock Parris, longtime resident of Casa Grande who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, passed away unexpectedly on
December 17th, 2017. He was born in Cherokee Falls, South Carolina, and raised in Blacksburg. Dock enlisted in the Army Air
Corps in 1941 and spent time during WWII in Africa and Italy.

On August 4th, 1946, Dock married the love of his life, Fern, in Colorado. In 1952 they moved to Arizona on the advice
of his wife’s physician, and landed in Casa Grande in 1954 where
they raised four children. Dock owned a custom harvesting business
(combines and cotton pickers) and in 1963 he purchased an 80 acre
farm off of Overfield Road where he grew cotton, wheat, alfalfa and
barley over the years. In addition to his farm, Dock and his wife
owned and operated the first gas station on I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson in the 60s.

Dock loved baseball and his favorite team was the Arizona Diamondbacks. He loved to count down the days until spring training and was always sad when the season ended.

Dock is preceded in death by his loving wife, Fern; his son,
Glen; one brother and five sisters. He is survived by his loving
children: son, Melvin (DiAnne) Parris of Casa Grande, AZ;
daughters, Brenneva Parris of Tempe, AZ and Bernice (Vernon)
Frantz of Buffalo, MO; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren;
28 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many, many friends. Dock
will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Services will be held on Friday, December 22nd, 2017 at
J. Warren Gardens Chapel. Viewing will begin at 10:00 am, with
funeral service beginning at 11:00 am and burial at Mt. View
Cemetery to follow.
