July 8, 1927 — May 27, 2018

COOLIDGE - Charles Patrick "Chuck" McHugh, 90, a longtime Pinal County businessman, died on May 27, 2018.

Mr. McHugh was born on July 8, 1927, in Tucson and was a son of James and Myrtis McHugh. After graduating from Tucson High School, he served in the Navy and supported veterans throughout his life. After studying accounting at the University of Arizona, he attended insurance and real estate schools. He worked for First National Bank of Arizona, then connected with Don Mahoney and John O'Donnell and helped start what became known as The Mahoney Group in Coolidge. He was a manager of the agency, sold insurance and was the real estate broker for all of the company offices.

He served on the board of First American Title Insurance Company and advisory board of First Federal Savings & Loan Association. He also served on the Coolidge industrial board, Chamber of Commerce, as president of the Rotary Club, as chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission and on the city development board as well as Pinal County Town Hall, Pinal County Development Board, Pinal Fair Board and Central Arizona College Foundation board.

He was a past director of Arizona Little League and was personally responsible for the organization of more than 23 Little Leagues around the state. He was an active supporter and participant in many sports and especially enjoyed a good golf game with his sons and friends. He loved playing baseball and softball and was a member of the Coolidge Boosters fast-pitch softball team that won a state tournament and played in the International Softball Congress world tournament in 1959. He announced Coolidge High School football games for 60 years, partly with his son Mickey, resulting in the stadium's press box being named for them. He felt that his greatest accomplishments were his family and serving others.

His first wife, Jeri, died in 1989, and he married Doris J. Smith in 1990. Other survivors include five adult children, Mickey, Brenda, Tim, Kevin and Ted; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and Doris' family members, Brenda Armstrong, Bruce Smith and Rod Smith; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his only sister and Doris' family members Bradley Smith and Bonnie Graham.
